An Unfinished War

This series, An Unfinished War, documents civil war battlefields. The war ended in defeat for the South in 1865, but the battle continues to this day. Jim Crow laws were put into effect after the war, as well as repressive voting policies. Vigilante groups intimidated new black citizens from voting and exercising their newly established rights. It wasn’t until the 1960s that voting rights legislation was passed. That legislation has been under attack ever since.
